Man Jailed For 1996 Rapes
A man who fled to Ireland in a bid to escape justice has been jailed for committing two rapes.
Dawid Wysocki, also known as Andrzej Wysocki or Arthur Bryewicz, 30, of Copenhagen St, N1 was sentenced to eight and a half years imprisonment for each offence of rape and 99 days for absconding at Wood Green Crown Court, to run concurrently.
He had previously pleaded guilty at a hearing at Wood Green Crown Court on 14 January, to two counts of rape relating to incidents in September 1996 in Whitechapel/Finchley; and at Watermead Way, Tottenham Marshes.
He was arrested in Northern Ireland in November 2009 following a pro-active operation with the PSNI.
On 22 September 1996 a 17-year-old female prostitute was kidnapped by two men in the Commercial Street area of East London.
She was taken to an address on the Strawberry Vale Estate in Finchley where she was raped by at least four men over a prolonged period of time.
The victim was eventually able to leave the address and approached a passing police vehicle and reported the attack. Due to the prompt actions of police two men were arrested at the scene.
Enquiries led police to link this offence with the rape of a 24-year-old victim in Watermead Way, Tottenham Marshes four days earlier.
Further arrests followed during the investigation which resulted in one man serving a ten year prison term for the two attacks.
A second man was sentenced to six years imprisonment in April 2009 after he pleaded guilty to one count of false imprisonment and one count of rape in relation to the Finchley incident.
