Mystery Surrounds Writer's Death
A former Daily Telegraph columnist has died from apparent head injuries following a mysterious motorcycling incident.
Travel writer Elisabeth (Minky) Turner, 83, was riding her 50cc White Piaggio Zip motorbike home from church on 7 March when she was believed to have crashed.
Police said they were not called to the incident and are attempting to piece together exactly what happened.
It is thought Ms Turner was returning from Chelsea Old Church at around 2pm when she suffered a fall or collision, in or near to Cheyne Walk near to Battersea Bridge.
She is believed to have wheeled the bike, registration LJ59 JUT, into Milman Street and asked a friend to collect it.
By the time the friend got to the location the bike was gone.
On 10 March Ms Turner was admitted to hospital, she died the next day.
A postmortem, carried out on Monday, found she suffered a head injury, but reported the circumstance of the death as unexplained.
A Met Police spokesman said: "We assume the bike was taken without permission at this early stage, although the person who now has it in their possession may be able help police further and we would urge them to come forwards.
"Their help in explaining the circumstances of the woman's death will be taken into consideration and we urge them not to be afraid to speak to us."
Police said they are keeping an open mind as to whether another vehicle was involved in the incident.
