Man Arrested In Milly Dowler Murder Investigation
UPDATE: The man arrested by police investigating the murder of schoolgirl Milly Dowler has now been released without charge.
The 40-year-old man from west London was arrested at 10am on Tuesday morning after voluntarily attending a police station.
He was questioned about the alleged disposal of a red Daewoo Nexia car.
It is understood that the man was not suspected of having any direct involvement in Milly's murder.
Surrey police have confirmed that the investigation into Milly's death "remains an active inquiry".
Police had appealed for information about the vehicle last year as part of their investigation into Milly's murder. The car had been seen on CCTV shortly after the schoolgirl disappeared.
Milly, 13, disappeared in March 2002 as she walked home from school in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey.
Her body was found six months later on Yateley Heath, Hampshire.
Convicted killer Levi Bellfield, who was jailed last year for the murder of two women, has been linked to the case.
Following last year's appeal about the red car, it later emerged that Bellfield's girlfriend had owned a car, which was the same model and colour as that sought by police. It was later reported stolen and has not been seen since.
A similar red car also featured in another possible attempted abduction near Walton-on-Thames the day before Milly disappeared. In this case, a 12-year-old girl told police that a man in a red car had offered her a lift in Shepperton.
