Soldier Targeted In Car Bomb
A soldier is said to be very lucky to be alive after a bomb was left in the car he had been driving in North Belfast.
The device was found under the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which was parked off the Ligoniel Road, at Blackdam Court.
It is understood if the bomb had gone off, the soldier and others in the vicinity, could have been killed.
Dissident republicans are being blamed.
SDLP North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness said:"This is a very sinister and disturbing incident which could have killed or seriously injured innocent people in our community.
"While this has undoubtedly been very traumatic for the man who discovered the bomb, it has also been very distressing for residents who had to evacuate their homes.
"People here want to live in peace and violence in any form is totally unjustifiable and is rejected by the overwhelming majority of people in North Belfast."
The security alert caused a lot of disruption to the area, around 60 residents had to be evacuated from their homes, they have since returned.

Residents Evacuated In North Belfast Alert
Residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in north Belfast following a report of a suspicious object in the area. The homes in Clifton Crescent were evacuated after the report of an object in the area on Monday afternoon. An army bomb squad has been tasked to the scene and the area has been closed to traffic.

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A number of people have escaped injury after a series of gun and pipe bomb attacks on their homes in County Antrim. A ten-year-old boy escaped in jury after shots were fired into a house at Mounthill Drive in Cloughmills, County Antrim.

Residents Return To Homes After Security Alert In North Belfast Ends
Residents have returned to their homes following a security alert in north Belfast. A suspicious object was discovered at the junction of North Queen Street and Brougham Street on Tuesday, however it was found to be 'nothing untoward'. Army bomb experts examined the object on Tuesday evening.

North Belfast School Damaged In Petrol Bomb Attack
A north Belfast school has suffered extensive smoke damage in a petrol bomb attack. The fire occurred at Saint Patrick's College Bearnageeha, on the Antrim Road. Police and the fire service arrived at the school at around 6.00am on Thursday, to find the fire had already burnt itself out.
